
We propose to build a monitoring system able to predict yield for specific crop types according to different applications systems (tillage and conservation agriculture practices) for Africa. OpenGeoHub and International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) has already produced 15-years yield maize estimates for Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Malawi comparing production systems. In these use cases, the implemented system will be expanded to cover the entire African continent.
What is the challenge?
Crop yield predictions in Africa are limited in geographic scope and often outdated, making it difficult to plan and assess agricultural productivity across the continent. There is a need for consistent, long-term yield monitoring at a continental scale.
Our solution
An EO-based monitoring system will be expanded to provide crop yield predictions for key regions in Africa, incorporating data from 15 years of yield estimates for comparison. The tool will help assess different farming practices, such as conservation agriculture.

Farmers, agricultural organizations, and policymakers across Africa will gain access to improved crop yield data for better planning and resource allocation.
